From leaving school I have worked in the public sector, firstly at Northamptonshire County Council, moving into Human Resources at Northampton Borough Council. Arriving in Pevensey in 1989, I worked in the National Health Service for 10 years before being appointed to the Events Team of Eastbourne Borough Council. Working firstly on Grants and Celebrations for the 2000 Millennium, I became part of the organising team for Eastbourne Airshow and the Beachy Head Marathon then created new events such as Magnificent Motors, Eastbourne Beer Festival, Last Night of the Proms and Eastbourne Extreme as well as ‘one off’ events which were responses to national commemorations, Royal Wedding, Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilees and GB Olympics.
Early retirement in 2017 has provided an opportunity to become involved in local democracy in a positive and helpful way to support the prosperity of our beautiful villages.

I spent my career in Central Government dealing with subjects like Immigration, Prisons, National Security and Human Resources. After retirement I worked in a charity in Hastings helping families in difficulty. Time then to resume voluntary work which I have done all my life in various ways and I hoped I could offer some of my skills to the Council. I am also a volunteer with St Wilfrid’s Hospice and have been involved in various charitable events in our locality, including PEVFEST. My aims include for the Council is to deal with the persistent problem we have with dog mess, to ensure we get a good contract for the maintenance of the sea defences and to upgrade the playground and leisure facilities we have for the benefit of all. I have two children and two grandchildren with another on the way. I have lived permanently in Pevensey Bay for 15 years but have visited every year since I was 10!

Being retired I have time to engage in the local community where I live, and to join and champion good courses such as the Maritine Volunteer Service and Rotary of which I am a member. Previously when I lived on Sovereign Harbour I was put forward as the representative for the housing area where I lived onto the Sovereign Harbour Neighbourhood Panel (which is similar to a Parish Council) and found it to be a worthwhile position to help to improve and maintaining the local infrastructure.

Having moved to Pevensey some six year ago I decided to apply to become a Pevensey Parish Councillor and continue with this type of work. Having gained previous experience and understanding of this type of work and the needs of the local community I was elected onto Pevensey Parish Council as a co-opted Councillor.
